Just a quick update about what life is looking like for us a little over one month here. We are settling into the routine of school, dinner, homework and then doing it all again the next day.

Walking. So. Much. Walking. Everywhere we go. We have all shed a few pounds and can make it up the hill next to our apartment much faster than we did the first week.

On Saturdays Derek goes on a group ride with some local Kosovaars (and always loves it). The kids and I usually end up at our local bakery for breakfast

and a nearby mall where they can play.

We recently visited The Shesh (rhymes with fresh) – a walking street with lots of shops and restaurants. It was fun and I’m sure we will go back soon.

I ate some street vendor food called the “tornado potato.” It claimed to be America’s favorite snack, but I’ve never seen one until now. It was good and should be added as a local fair food.

We had dinner with the Halversons from Ohio/Kentucky and they have become fast friends. I’m sure everyone who meets them feels that way. It’s nice to know someone who can give us tips on finding a butcher, getting new places, and just making you feel like everything will work out. I am already so thankful for them and their ministry here.

It’s been raining the past couple of days. When it rains, these snails come out everywhere! It really is shocking at how many there are. You definitely have to dodge them while you walk.

Lastly, there is a piano in the school entry way and you can hear it through the entire school. Dexter always plays it during his lunchtime break. It makes me smile when I hear him playing in the middle of the day and I’m teaching in my classroom. The sound quality on this video clip is not very good, but I always want to remember this memory, so I’m posting it here.
