Getting there…

In the past couple of days we have made significant progress toward settling in. We got our home internet working. It’s strange how having Peppa Pig playing on the tv for Ellie while the rest of us do our own things makes it instantly feel more like home. We also got our Alexa working which means regular dance parties can resume and Lucy can ask her about the weather every morning when deciding what to wear.

Derek successfully took his first bike ride. He says the terrain is similar to Cincinnati, but with more hills. He passed by 4 dogs who barely looked at him. At home they always chase him. Not sure why that is, it was just a difference he noted.

Thank goodness we found a pizza place within walking distance to our apartment. The kids were very happy.

The server claimed he spoke only “a little” English, but he was great! When he wanted to know how many pizzas we wanted, I pointed to all of us and asked him what he thought. He brought three and that was the perfect amount. We left only a half of a piece behind. Also, he brought Ellie her own little cup of whipped cream drizzled in chocolate sauce, which she was happy to eat.

Just to note, we had three medium sized pizzas with multiple toppings and five drinks. Our bill was 10 euros.

We also discovered a coffee shop in the building next door! Yay! This is a major find for Derek since we haven’t been able to purchase a coffee maker or find a kettle yet.

In general, the older three kids have switched over to the new time with no trouble. Ellie is still struggling a bit. If I let her sleep at all during the day, we are up at least until 12:30am. But when baby girl is tired during the day, there’s not much I can do.

It’s just the six of us all of the time. Good thing we like each other. Honestly, this was one of the things we were looking forward to the most. Our family had gotten into a bad habit of going in multiple directions everyday and not really spending much time together. We certainly can’t say that now.

I still feel overwhelmed, but not as bad as at first. 😁
