So long, September!

We wrapped up the month with Dexter running in a 5k. He heard about it and signed up for it all on his own!

A factor in our decision to come to Kosovo has to do with the loss of my dad. I love that man and miss him so much. He was a significant part of our everyday lives and his absence was just too big. Call it a change in routine, a new perspective, or running away from my feelings – and it is probably all of those things. But it has been healing to be in a new place and experience new things. It doesn’t feel so much like he’s missing because we never did this stuff with him. I want to get to a point where I remember all the encouraging things about him instead of just feeling the sadness. Dad’s birthday is Saturday. I wish I was planning a trip to Red Lobster with him, but instead, God led me to Kosovo.

So imagine how it took away my breath when at dinner one night Dexter said he had to do a speech about one of his favorite people and he picked his Big Pappaw. We all miss him. Dexter will never understand the extent to which my heart smiled when he wrote a speech about my dad to share with his classmates.

I asked Dexter if I could record him reading what he wrote before he started practicing the presentation. He agreed and I’m posting it here so I have it and can always remember. Interesting observation – since arriving in Kosovo, Dexter’s tics have been minimal, but in this video they are happening much stronger. Just a reminder to me that Dexter continues to process his own feelings about losing his Big Pappaw. โค๏ธ

On a much lighter note – Lucy spends hours doing flips and trying to walk on her hands. I found this video clip on my phone that she must have sent to Nana. ๐Ÿ˜‚

We let the kids walk home after school while I head over to pick up Ellie. Here they are trying to run and catch the city bus. If they time it right, the 3A will take them about halfway home. Otherwise they walk.

Dexter and Xander chased after the bus and flagged it down one afternoon. It’s currently their favorite story to tell.

We tried a new restaurant last week. When we ordered chicken fingers for Xander and Lucy, the waiter seemed confused about why we wanted two orders. But, with the language barrier we insisted two. When they arrived, we understood the confusion. These were the biggest orders of chicken fingers we have ever received. Everyone laughed pretty hard and we had dinner covered for the rest of the week.
